The 2027 Masters Tournament is scheduled for Thursday, April 8 to Sunday, April 11, 2027, at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Practice rounds start on Monday, April 5, so Masters week in 2027 runs from April 5 to April 11.

The Masters is the first of golf's four men's major championships each year and the only one played on the same course every year. Augusta National announces its dates years in advance, and they always fall in the first full week of April.

The Augusta National Women's Amateur and the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals are traditionally played at the club on the weekend before Masters week.

How the tournament works

The Masters is an invitational. Instead of open qualifying, Augusta National invites players through a list of criteria: past champions, recent major winners, top players in the world ranking, PGA Tour winners and leading amateurs. That keeps the field small, usually fewer than 100 players.

Everyone plays 36 holes on Thursday and Friday. After the second round, the top 50 players and ties make the cut and play the weekend. The champion is the player with the lowest total over 72 holes; a tie goes to a sudden-death playoff.

Traditions

  • The green jacket. The winner is presented with a green jacket, the club members' jacket, by the previous year's champion. He may take it home for a year before it returns to the club.
  • The Champions Dinner. On Tuesday of Masters week, the defending champion hosts a dinner for past winners and chooses the menu.
  • The Par 3 Contest. On Wednesday, players play the club's short nine-hole par-3 course, often with family members as caddies.
  • Amen Corner. The 11th, 12th and 13th holes, where the tournament has been won and lost many times.
  • Patrons, not fans. Spectators are called patrons, mobile phones are not allowed on the course, and famous pimento cheese sandwiches are sold at the concession stands at old-fashioned prices.

A recent milestone

In 2025 Rory McIlroy won the Masters in a playoff, completing the career Grand Slam of all four major championships. He became only the sixth man to do it, after Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. Nicklaus holds the record for Masters titles with six, followed by Woods with five.

How to watch or attend

In the United States, the Masters is televised by CBS on the weekend and ESPN on Thursday and Friday, with extensive streaming coverage on the tournament's own website and app. Tickets are famously hard to get: Augusta National sells them through an online application with a random drawing, usually opening in the year before the tournament, and only applicants who are drawn may buy.

The Masters opens the golf major season, which continues with the PGA Championship in May, the U.S. Open in June and The Open Championship in July. See our sports calendar by month for everything else happening in April.
